BALLET OF THE DOLLS

Celebrating its 2005-2006 20th Anniversary Season

The Ritz Theater and Ballet of the Dolls presents Doors Opening: A Symphony of Dolls, the first show in the Dolls’ new home the newly renovated Ritz Theater May 12-27.

Two decades and two thousand dances inspire a new original ballet in The Dolls’ new home at the Ritz Theater.

This brand new work showcases the remarkable abilities of original company members and flair of the newest additions to the roster of artists. Never a group to rest on their laurels, the Dolls are prepared to hit the ground running, leaping, spinning to command every inch of the stage. Set to the music of Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Schubert, Blige, Bowie, and many others, the evening will merge the styles and interests of the company that have made them unique for two decades. Artistic Director, Myron Johnson will once again blend his unique aesthetic of ballet, jazz, mime, and theater for an evening you won’t soon forget. This is a must see event.

Giselle

December 7-31, 2005

At Ordway Center

Ballet of the Dolls presents a New Holiday Deconstruction of the most famous of love tragedies in the ballet repertoire, Giselle – In Boogie Wonderland. Directed and Choreographed by Myron Johnson

The plans are going swell for the holiday celebration in Giselle’s quaint little town until strangers invade the party and change everyone’s lives forever. From classic disco to hard driving rock and roll, this Giselle will forever alter your notions about the power of love, ballet and the phrase “you give me the Willys”.

Mike Steele wrote in his 1988 Star Tribune review, “wild and frenzied dancing” and “the most memorable graveyard scene.”

Even at his camp best, [Artistic Director Myron] Johnson sneaks in unexpected moments of emotional poignancy.”

Joan Freese, City Pages.

 Shades of Lady Grey

at the Southern Theater

October 20-23, 2005

BALLET OF THE DOLLS presents Shades of Lady Grey a New & Original dance theater performance at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis, October 20-23, 2005.

Ballet of the Dolls explores their own unique dimension of dance in Shades of Lady Grey. In this original new work, a woman attempts to disappear into a world she sees as monochromatic. A practitioner of the art of self-creation, Lady Grey learns the deeper truths about self-discovery and individual freedom before her own brilliant colors are revealed.

Shades of Lady Grey will be directed and choreographed by Ballet of the Dolls Artistic Director Myron Johnson, and will star the extraordinary Stephanie Fellner, recipient of a 2005 McKnight Foundation Dancer Fellowship and 2004 City Pages Best Dancer of the Year.
