The Company

About

Ballet of the Dolls was created in 1986 by esteemed choreographer Myron Johnson. Providing the Twin Cities with its first year-round dance-theater program, the company immediately filled a unique niche in the arts community, offering intimate and innovative professional dance-theater performances that appeal to both dance and theater audiences. Advertised solely by word of mouth, several thousand people attended the first season consisting of five original full-length shows, making the Dolls a permanent fixture in the Twin Cities arts community. Celebrating its 22nd season, Ballet of the Dolls continues to push boundaries by creating challenging original works, operating education and outreach programs, and now by programming and managing the newly renovated Ritz Theater in Northeast Minneapolis.

Mission

Ballet of the Dolls fulfills its mission in part by creating a variety of professional, full-scale dance-theater productions that include deconstructions of famous ballets, original works for dance-theater, and works created for families and children.

We extend our unique dance-theater vision through our education programs with on-site and outreach program activities that include in-school residencies, the Dolls Performance Workshop for Youth, and free performances by the Company in support of community events. The establishment of the Ritz Theater in Northeast Minneapolis as a permanent home for the Dolls will significantly increase our ability to engage young audiences and increase their appreciation of dance and dance-theater.
